Dawson City Front Street Reconstruction

 

Project Description….

This project consisted of paving of approximately 2.1 kilometres of Klondike Highway from km 713.9 to km 716.0 in Dawson City (Front Street). Work included but was not limited to: producing aggregates, scarifying and reshaping existing road to ensure positive drainage, reshaping and regarding ditches to ensure positive drainage, supplying and installing catch basins and leads, construction of a granular “A” base, supplying and applying standard hot mix asphalt pavement, supplying and applying a clear bitumen surface course, intersection improvements, constructing gravel shoulders, preparing and paving access road approaches, and traffic control. It should be noted that the application of the clear bitumen surface layer was the first of its kind in North America.

 

Our Role….

CAP’s role on this project was to provide project management and inspection services over the duration of the construction period. In general, our services included: providing qualified on-site project inspection staff, organizing inspection staff to meet the needs of the construction work phases in an effective and efficient manner, maintaining accurate and complete site records, monitoring the Construction Contractor’s traffic control to ensure compliance with contract specifications and safety of the highway users, and monitoring Construction Contractor's operations to ensure Environmental Compliance with contract specifications, permits, licenses and EMP.
